I would like to congratulate Joss Whedon on admitting that Firefly/Serenity is dead. Remember, Browncoats, it's all your fault for making Yet Another LiveJournal post about the movie, and not just living at the theatre for the seven weeks it was on.

Again, to repeat: it was all your fault.

Yeah, sometimes it sucks to be in a fandom that needs to make money.

Money is the root of all evil.

Right before zillions of Firefly fans making OMGSQUEE!! posts about the series and upcoming movie for over a year, rarely articulating anything about the series/movie and what made them like it. And if you didn't love it, well gosh, you weren't a right proper geek/sci-fi fan, because all geeks and sci-fi fans like the same thing, damnit, and that same thing boils down to Serenity!

Ahh fandom. It would be so great, without the fans. :-)

[Just think, if all the fans had gone to see the movie the same number of times in the last 6 weeks in theatres as they did the first week, it would have made 150 million in the USA alone! How could they fail Joss so?]

Again:

THANK YOU!

I can clearly articulate the myriad reasons why it annoys me. And still, people insist I either 'didn't watch it in order' or 'didn't give it a chance'.

How many of -those- people were watching it Friday nights when it was on Fox? I know [info]spherewalker and I were - and we tried like hell to like it. After three eps, I still liked 'John Doe' better.

At least I wasn't the only one. I quit after 2 shows...it just never caught me. Oh well, no loss really... except I'll have to hear the fanboi crew whining like babies this weekend...

See, I've only seen a little bit of an episode, and I kind of liked it. But even after over a year of Browncoat-wank, I still went into it with a blank slate, because none of them actually said anything about the show.

I do intend to watch it at some point, cuz it did seem kinda cool. But the rabid fanbase... urgh.

I just saw the pilot ep last night and liked it, but it didn't make me want to go "OMGSQUEE!! " ;)

And where have you been? irc hasn't been the same without your acerbic wit. :)

When the channel regularly had way more people who were complete wastes of time, and with those wastes of time dominating discussion with WoW bullshit ... meh. Wasn't worth hanging out there for the less than 10 people that could actually have decent conversations, especially since there were rarely more than a couple of them on at any time.

I'll rent or borrow Serenity. I am hoping the movie-length allows for a more focused setting.

But the show, I just could not get into.

I found it hard to like on Fox, but did watch it. It was much better without the commercial interruptions and in the proper order.

"...there's an article running around on Entertainment Weekly that says basically "Joss says Firefly is dead, move on." - here's what Joss had to say about it, from Whedonesque.com:

All right, now I have to jump in and set the record straight. EW is a fine rag, but they do take things out of context. Obviously when I said I had 'closure', what I meant was "I hate Serenity, I hated Firefly, I think my fans are stupid and Nathan Fillion smells like turnips." But EW's always got to put some weird negative spin on it. But so we're clear once and for all: If you read a quote saying "I'd love to do more in this 'verse with these actors in any medium" all I'm saying is that Nathan has a turnipy odor. It's not his fault, he doesn't eat a lot of them but everyone else in the cast noticed it and tht's not really something I'm prepared to deal with any more. And Jewel said outright she wouldn't do scenes with him except stuff like the SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER funeral scene which was outside in a high SPOILER wind. So if I do manage to find another incarnation for my beloved creation, it will have been totally against my will.

I hope that clears everything up. Oh, and when I say I want to do a Spike movie, it means I have a bunion on my toe.

Oh man you REALLY hate Firefly/Serenity. Even though I like both the show and the movie I have to say you stand your ground. As for browncoat fans who can't really explain why they like the show, well alot of fanboys can't explain why they like what they like. If they could we would probably call them something other than fanboys. As for me I like the old west themes hidden in the sci-fi and the ensemble performance of the whole cast, but most importantly I just love the way Joss Whedon writes dialogue. But right now......

Bud Light Presents: Real Men of Opinion
Today we salute you, Mr Firefly/Serenity Hater.
You had the insight not to jump on the bandwagon and stood by your opinion that it was crap.
(Cheesy guy singing in Background: That Shooooow Really Sucked)
You were not daunted by legions of fanboys in dusters arguing the genius of the shows creator so crack open an Ice Cold Bud Light and tell them to piss off as we salute you.
Mr. Firefly Serenity Hater.

No, I don't hate Firefly/Serenity at all. What I hated was the extremely rabid fanbase, and how they over-inflated the show and their expectations of the movie and its success to points where it could not be achieved. I remember seeing someone say that they should have launched it the same weekend as Star Wars 3, so people would see what a "real" sci-fi movie was like!

It's funny how a lot of people don't realize that -- despite the number of times I've said it -- and assume that I hate the show itself.

okay I get where your comming from and I agree that the movie would never live up to what the fanboys expected. And your right opening it the same weeked as episode III would have killed it the same way batman killed UHF. So I apologize for my missunderstanding. Even I was put off by some of the fanboys becuase I only saw the movie two times.
